Botox Injections for Migraines

Question:

Can we bill CPT 96372 or 11900-11901 instead of CPT 64615 for the administration of Botox injections given for migraines?

Answer:

Thank you for contacting KZA with your question.  By CPT description 11900 and 11901 are for intralesional injections.  They would not be an appropriate code for use with Botox for migraines.  96372 is for therapeutic, prophylactic or diagnostic injection; subcutaneous or intramuscular and is to be used when there is not a more specific procedure code describing the injection service.  Per CPT, 64615 is used to report a chemodenervation injection procedure for the treatment of chronic migraines.
